MapFrame News Release MapFrame’s FieldSmart Applications Now Run in a Windows CE Environment DALLAS (FEBRUARY 9, 2001) - MapFrame Corporation announced today the availability of its FieldSmart software suite for the Windows CE operating environment. FieldSmart applications provide electric and gas utilities (as well as other organizations) with smart, simple solutions for automating field activities. These powerful map-based applications include FieldSmart View, Collect, Inspect, and Design. Traditionally running on laptops or high-performance pen computers, FieldSmart solutions are exceptionally robust, providing access to maps and related databases -- even those encompassing large multi-state utility service territories. Using FieldSmart software on mobile computers, field personnel can access all the information they need to solve complex problems at the job site, no matter where that happens to be. In porting to Windows CE, MapFrame has preserved the power and capabilities of its standard FieldSmart applications. "People have been looking for a lighter footprint for some time," said Ted Eynon, MapFrame Vice-President of Marketing and Sales. "Our breakthrough compression technology is the key to making powerful graphics-based applications work in a CE environment." FieldSmart CE reflects the trend toward smaller, lighter, cheaper hardware – recognizing that utilities often need to deploy hundreds of field devices to achieve automation goals. MapFrame’s Field Flow Manager™ software utilizes proprietary techniques to achieve the extremely high compression ratios necessary for the effective use of maps in a CE environment. All FieldSmart applications run in this compact proprietary data format so users are never limited to a subset when what they really need is access to the entire database. FieldSmart CE follows the utility industry tradition of using small dedicated field devices for various operations tasks. FieldSmart CE also preserves the intuitive interface common to all FieldSmart products. For example, to zoom in on a map, users draw a circle around the area of interest. To access attribute data, all you do is tap on an object. To zoom out, write a "Z" on the screen. This extremely intuitive interface insures acceptance from field personnel who often have little computer experience. As with its original FieldSmart solutions, MapFrame’s FieldSmart CE applications are format-neutral and accept data from all major GIS and CAD systems. The software handles both raster and vector data. # # # Press Information: Heather Patton, MapFrame email: Click here tel: 214.741.2264 x105 General Information: Click here |
