MapFrame News Release MapFrame to Provide KeySpan Energy with FieldSmart Software DALLAS (JULY 6, 2001) - MapFrame Corporation announced today that it is providing FieldSmart™ map viewing capability to KeySpan Energy (Brooklyn, NY). FieldSmart View will enable users to access and view stored maps and facilities data on either desktop or mobile computers. Because KeySpan distributes both gas and electricity, the map viewer will include information for both types of service (poles, meters, valves, transformers, and other devices.) Data from the utility’s ICL Geographic Information System will run in MapFrame’s compact data format to insure that large databases can be used on either a laptop or a pen-based tablet. KeySpan believes that, in the future, FieldSmart View can accommodate a broad range of users with varying levels of computer experience. The software’s highly intuitive interface requires little training and no GIS experience. For example, users can navigate around a map by drawing “gestures” (simple marks made on the computer screen) with a mouse or pen, by clicking/tapping on icons and hot buttons, or by selecting from the menu. The software’s dual command paths and use of gestures makes it ideal for a field environment where personnel often have limited computer experience. KeySpan Energy is the parent company of several utilities that distribute natural gas to customers in New England, on Long Island, and in New York City. The company also provides electric service to Long Island Power Authority’s 1.1 million customers. MapFrame specializes in helping organizations incorporate map-based mobile computing technology in their field operations.
