MapFrame News Release GPU Contracts with MapFrame for FieldSmart Inspect Software DALLAS (JULY 20, 2001) - MapFrame Corporation announced today that GPU Energy (Morristown, NJ) has contracted with MapFrame for an audit/inspection application that can be used in a variety of settings. To provide a system that meets dual objectives, MapFrame is customizing its FieldSmart Inspect software so GPU can use it for selected facility audits as well as pole inspections. The software will run on desktop and mobile computers, leveraging GPU’s existing Smallworld GIS technology by making maps and facilities data available to new users both in and outside the office. Maps will function as the foundation for the inspection process but -- with the application’s highly intuitive interface – GPU personnel don’t need any GIS background or even computer experience to quickly learn and use the sytem. For example, you can navigate around a map by drawing simple marks on the computer screen with a mouse or pen. These “gestures” include drawing a circle to zoom in, drawing a “Z” to zoom out, and drawing an “A” to zoom all the way out. The interface also includes icons, hot buttons, and menu options. MapFrame’s Field Flow Manager™ will organize and compress the data so all required facility maps and related databases can run on mobile computers as well as the desktop. The Field Flow Manager will keep maps current by moving data on an “as needed” basis with incremental map updates. GPU is an international provider of energy-related services.
