Idaho Power Selects MapFrame’s FieldSmart® as their Mobile Mapping and Field Automation Solution

Dallas, TX (January 10, 2005) - MapFrame Corporation announced today Idaho Power Co. has selected MapFrame’s FieldSmart® applications to empower its workforce with a mobile GIS and field automation solution.

Idaho Power is consolidating all mapping data into one system to enhance productivity and work accuracy in the field. The demands of maintaining consistency between physical and electronic mapping systems led Idaho Power to search for a mobile solution. “We have been requiring people to correct data in one mapping system, then duplicate their effort in another,” said Sid Brewer, Idaho Power Principal Engineer. “The dispatchers could be looking at GIS data and field crews might be looking at different information on their paper maps.”

FieldSmart features a neutral interface, and will integrate with Idaho Power’s existing ESRI 9.0 GIS – compressing and extending the entire utility service territory into the field and onto a mobile computer. No longer will the field be a separate piece to be maintained, but instead an integrated part of the Idaho Power enterprise.

FieldSmart View™ is the core map viewing application on which all FieldSmart applications are based. View™ will replace paper maps at Idaho Power, allowing users to quickly locate a specific facility, navigate to view the desired area, and then easily access attribute data. Layered on top of View™ for a single, spatially-based tool will be FieldSmart Secure™, Route™ and Sketch™. These applications along with MapFrame’s server component, Field Flow Manager™ will automate routing and redlining, and provide workers with fast, secure access to the latest Idaho Power maps and customer information.

“We chose MapFrame’s FieldSmart solution because it is proven technology with a high level of current customer satisfaction,” said Sid Brewer. “Using a computer is just a small part of the work our field crews do every day, therefore speed and ease of use were also particularly important in our selection process. Our goal is to make our field crews more efficient, not to impose a tool that requires a large learning curve or is so slow that they get less work done. MapFrame provides a tool to get the job done with only a few taps on the screen.”

Idaho Power is moving towards mobile technology to improve its field work processes. “MapFrame Corporation is dedicated to helping Idaho Power discover new ways to gain productivity and promote efficiency in the field and throughout the enterprise. We look forward to a long working relationship,” said Paul Wilson, MapFrame President and Founder.
